During today’s presentation of the Marvel Avengers war table, we got a full overview of the gameplay for the next superhero game from Crystal Dynamics. While the action was plentiful and the details in depth (you can read the full video recap, as well as our interview with the team here), a subtle detail caught our eye.
In the opening cinematic of the Hero mission “Once An Avenger …”, a journalist broadcasts under the Avengers helicopter while a battle is raging. Upon closer examination, the microphone flag features the logo of none other than The Daily Bugle, the publication for which Peter Parker works / worked. Could it be potentially a tease that the webslinger himself could be recruited by Ms. Marvel to help Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Hulk in the future?
While this may just serve as a trivial nod to the grand Marvel universe, in our new interview with Crystal Dynamics, studio chief Scot Amos says the team is adding teasing to launch day content to hint at future heroes, villains and potential story bows. “Some of the hooks we threw in the water the first day, you say to yourself,” Oh, that’s pretty cool. AIM has this submarine base. It uses cool technology. I wonder if this is going somewhere. “Later, we pay for it with:” Oh my God! It has to do with that, and now that other character has appeared! “”, He said. “These types of bows are things we start at the basic level and then add these heroes, regions and villains at no additional cost. This world just keeps growing and you are constantly on this buy-the-ticket -take-the -Ride-with-us travels from the start through the extensions we’re going to have. “
